Motoring and Road Traffic Law

Carter Osborne Limited are specialists in Motoring and Road Traffic Law, please contact us with any enquiries that you have regarding Motoring and Road Traffic Law.

Carter Osborne Limited regularly assist people with a wide variety of Motoring and Road Traffic Offences and here are the most common matters that are dealt with:

  • Speeding
  • Death by dangerous/careless driving
  • Dangerous driving
  • Driving without insurance
  • Careless driving
  • Failing to stop or report an accident
  • Avoiding a driving ban
  • Application for removal of disqualification

Not all Motoring and Road Traffic matters are eligible to be funded through the legal aid system and therefore we have fixed fee options available if you have to fund your case privately. In a number of recent successful cases we have been able to obtain an Order of the Court allowing recovery of some, or all, of our clients costs and therefore on some occasions clients have achieved the best result possible and been awarded their costs!

By law we are required to give a breakdown of fees for summary only motoring offences.  You will be given advice as to whether you face one of these.  If this does apply to you then the following is relevant:

Consultation Fee Appointment with a Solicitor £200 + VAT
Guilty Plea  – Representation in Court and conclusion of case in one hearing £485 + VAT
For any additional hearings £485 + VAT
Exceptional Hardship Preparation –  one consultation and Hearing £1000 + VAT
Special Reasons/Trial Preparation – one consultation and Hearing £2500 + VAT
Additional Trial Days – £500 + VAT
Adjourned Trial – £1000 + VAT

Please note that additional costs may be incurred for the following:

Experts  – Rate as specified by expert and agreed in advance
Medical Records  – As above
Seeing Witnesses  – £250 + VAT per hour
Additional Conferences  – £250 + VAT per hour

We will advise you of timescales relevant in your case. It is difficult to be precise due to the court listings which vary with location and workload. However, if you are having a contested hearing/trial this is likely to take approximately six months.

Please contact us immediately if you have any enquiries regarding these or other matters.
